State employees’ right to join a union is under attack

After TSEU and allies defeated attempts to remove the right of state employees to join a union with payroll deduction in session after session, they have changed their tactics.

Texas AG Ken Paxton issued an opinion last spring attempting to use the JANUS Supreme court decision to apply to the voluntary dues deduction that occurs in Texas. This opinion was purely a partisan attempt to strong arm the state into making unnecessary changes; unfortunately it is working.

The comptroller is now planning to change its rules to comply to the AG opinion. The new rules would not allow organizations to collect membership applications and instead force new members to sign up through an unknown system created by each agency. We must organize and fight this rule change.

SEND THE MESSAGE!

We urge TSEU members and allies to write a letter to Rob Coleman, Director of the Fiscal Management Division and Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar stating your opposition to this undemocratic rule change that will make it more difficult for state employees to join their union.
